You’ve probably heard me say that I don’t mind owning great stocks. I just prefer to get them at a discount.
And right now, thanks to the recent spike in volatility, I’ve got a way to do exactly that… and get paid in the process.
Let’s talk about selling puts.
The Setup
With the VIX spiking recently and the market getting choppy, put premiums are inflated. And that’s when this strategy really kicks into high gear.
When I see premiums jump, I go shopping — not by buying stock outright, but by selling cash-secured puts on names I like.
It’s basically this:
- You get paid today (you collect the premium)
- You agree to potentially buy the stock later — only if it drops to your price
- And if it never does? You keep the premium and move on
The Ticker I’m Targeting
I mentioned this on Market Radar today, but I’ll spell it out again here:
Apple (AAPL)
It’s a solid name. I’d be fine owning it in my portfolio. But I’d rather not chase it at current levels.
So instead, I’m looking at selling puts at a strike price 10% below current levels — which gives me a good margin of safety.
If the stock pulls back and I get assigned the shares, I’ll be happy to own them at a discount.
And if not? I just pocket the premium.
Why This Works Right Now
When markets are calm, put premiums are tiny.
But in a market like this — with tariffs in the headlines, volatility jumping, and traders on edge — you can actually get paid decent money for your patience.
It’s not flashy. It’s not some moonshot trade.
But it’s consistent. It’s controlled. And it’s how I like to get paid while waiting for great entries.
