“Teleporting” May Accelerate the Great Convergence – For Real The classic “Star Trek” television series in the 1960s was, of course, science fiction. At the time anyway. Some of its futuristic imaginings have become real. For example, the show featured a device called the “communicator” six decades ago. It prefigured mobile phones – specifically flip phones. In fact, when Motorola introduced the first flip phone 32 years after Star Trek introduced the communicator, it named the model StarTAC in a clear nod to the show. That’s pretty cool, even to a non-Trekkie. But surely there are limits. “Beam me up Scotty” teleportation could never be real, right? Well… It’s not happening with humans (yet), but this week scientists at Oxford announced they had built a supercomputer capable of quantum teleportation. Data has been teleported before, which is wild enough, but this advancement was the first with “logic gates.” Logic gates perform basic logic functions. They are the building blocks of algorithms. I dealt with those when writing the algorithms for my Quantum Edge stock-picking system. But I must say, the idea of teleporting logic gates never entered my mind! Here’s the benefit: “This breakthrough enables us to effectively 'wire together' distinct quantum processors into a single, fully connected quantum computer,” according to Dougal Main, an Oxford graduate student who led the study. What’s more, researchers say this breakthrough demonstrates how a quantum system could be constructed using available technology. That remains the biggest challenge to widespread adoption of quantum computing – making them on a practical scale. I’ve found one stock I think will benefit the most. It could be the #1 Tech Stock of 2025. | | | This Could Change the Game A little over a year ago, I wrote to my TradeSmith Investment Report readers about the massive size of quantum computers and the highly demanding conditions in which they operate. I shared details about IBM Quantum System One, the world’s first circuit-based commercial quantum computer. It requires a fortress-like infrastructure because the quantum chip inside must be cooled to temperatures just slightly above absolute zero, which is the temperature at which all molecular motion stops. (That’s 460 degrees below zero on your Fahrenheit thermometer if you’re scoring at home.) Inside the aluminum fortress were three cylinders with oodles of silver wire loops, looking simultaneously old-school and futuristic… and poised to change the way we do everything. Source: IBM Those size and operational requirements may already be changing easing. The ability to teleport logic gates and string together quantum chips could make computers smaller and cheaper. That would be a tipping point when quantum computers go from experimental to experiential. The timing is fascinating because just a month ago Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang got a lot of attention when he said that “very useful quantum computers” were still 15 to 30 years away. Quantum computing stocks got hit hard. Far be it from me to question Jensen Huang’s expertise. He may be right in terms of quantum computers being as ubiquitous as laptops. But this latest breakthrough seems to open the possibility of widespread use sooner than that. Besides, we don’t need “PQCs” – personal quantum computers – to leverage the transformational power of the Great Convergence. At Your Service While artificial intelligence gets all the attention, it’s one leg of a three-legged stool transforming information and communication in our digital world. Understanding this helps us find some of the most exciting long-term investment opportunities. Three breakthrough technologies are converging, and all three are essential to even more amazing breakthroughs in the future. They are: - Artificial Intelligence
- Quantum Computing
- NextGen Networking
AI is the software. Quantum computers are the hardware. And advanced networking allows them to “talk” to each other. That’s why we won’t need quantum computers sitting in our offices or homes. They won’t be available for some time anyway, so how can we use them? Hardware as a Service – or HaaS. You’ve probably heard of Software as a Service (SaaS). It’s a hugely popular business model in which companies “rent” their software to users who connect to the cloud over the internet. Successful SaaS companies have made investors a ton of money. Microsoft (MSFT) and ServiceNow (NOW) both soared more than 1,000% in the last decade. Microsoft does this with its artificial intelligence cloud software, AI Copilot, which my research firm has experience with. Businesses pay a usage fee to access Copilot to enhance their applications with AI. ServiceNow, which is up over 45% for us in TradeSmith Investment Report, automates business workflows, primarily IT processes. I expect quantum computing will build on this already successful “as a service” model until the technology becomes cheaper and more ubiquitous. Where to Invest Now When analyzing investment opportunities, the highest probability of success – companies with strong data and growth – are more on the AI and networking legs of the stool. Pure play quantum computing companies are mostly startups. Speculators invest hoping to hit it big, and they might. Some startups may become phenomenal successes, but many will not. It’s simply too early to make that determination based on currently available stock data. A couple of startups getting plenty of buzz include D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) and Rigetti Computing (RGTI). Those stocks rate poorly in my system with Quantum Scores of 39.7. Their profit margins are -944.5% and -625.5% respectively. They are lottery-ticket stocks. There’s a chance you’ll make a ton of money, but there’s a greater chance you won’t. You want to stay with stocks that have higher Quantum Scores – stocks with superior fundamentals, strong technicals, and Big Money inflows. That puts you in a megatrend and in a stock with a high probability of making money based on nearly 35 years of data, back testing, and use. I recommended Arista Networks (ANET) to my TradeSmith Investment Report readers the summer before last. It is a next-generation networking company that has been at the top of my system’s rankings. Its Quantum Score has slipped to 67.2, which is just under my preferred buy range (70 to 85), after shares fell on the DeepSeek AI news out of China three weeks ago. The Technical Score fell as a result, but that Fundamental Score of 87.5 is about as good as it gets. Source: TradeSmith Finance We’re up more than 150% in TradeSmith Investment Report after locking in big profits on a portion of our shares while holding the rest. It remains an excellent company. From the AI leg of the stool, Meta Platforms (META) is showing up in my research right now. The company formerly known as Facebook has its own open-source AI, a research division called Meta AI, and is incorporating more AI features in its products and applications. Source: TradeSmith Finance META’s Quantum Score is outstanding at 82.8, and I like the strength in both the fundamentals and technical. Looking into my system, I also see Big Money has been active in the stock the last three weeks, which is not surprising given META’s 25% surge already in 2025. As AI, quantum computing, and next-generation networking converge, the speed and capabilities that will be unleased are almost beyond our imagination. That’s how transformative the leap will be, impacting just about everything from how we communicate to how long we live. Look to the future for dreams, excitement, and possibilities, but stay grounded in the data for your investments. Talk soon,
