A Message from Porter & Company I’m sure you remember the first time you used Zoom to converse with people from work… …pulled up Google Maps to get directions… …summoned an Uber… …and put your car into self-drive mode. It’s amazing when a new technology helps you do something useful. You tend to remember those moments. But I’ll admit… When I asked ChatGPT where I should invest my money, and it gave me the definition of an ETF, blue chip stock, and bond… I was underwhelmed to say the least. I’m not saying AI is useless. It has its uses. But there is a glaring mismatch between the reality of AI and the media’s portrayal of AI as a “magical brain” that knows everything. AI is bad at many tasks. It makes mistakes. It cannot solve problems or generate thoughts. It is a glorified Wikipedia on steroids, an Artificial Illusion. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of flak for saying that. But someone needs to say it. You may not agree with me, and that’s fine. But after you watch this controversial video I’ve just produced, I think you’ll change your mind very quickly.
