Today’s FOMC Minutes and Markets Are in the Chop Zone — Here’s What Will Break the Stalemate

JOIN US HERE! _________________________________________________   Today’s FOMC Minutes and Markets Are in the Chop Zone — Here’s What Will Break the Stalemate  Stocks are mixed with the Nasdaq leading and the Dow down a bit — totally random trading action so far.  We have the latest FOMC minutes coming at 2 p.m. ET, but I don’t think it will be meaningful. There’s a 99% chance that nothing is going to happen because we’re not getting a rate cut any time soon.  And if we already know we’re not getting a rate cut, then today’s announcement is unlikely to move markets — unless they say they’re thinking about hiking again, which seems unlikely at this point. Crude oil is starting to come off recent lows, but I don’t see it going anywhere at this point. I believe it will be stuck in this current range for a while so I would be very careful with energy-related stocks right now.  Gold looks beautiful right now and as long as the U.S. dollar stays in its strong downtrend, that will continue to be good for gold.  The bond market (TLT) is lower again by a whole basis point, which puts pressure on stocks. I don’t like any of the action we’re seeing here in the long bond.  The stock market gets its directional bias from the bond market, which looks like it doesn’t know what to do with itself.
