And then in the mail I get this month’s issue of Foreign Affairs magazine and the title is “World of War.” Here’s what’s going on: 
Some of the articles in this month’s Foreign Affairs issue have titles like: The Return of Total War Wars Are Not Accidents China’s Agents of Chaos Battles of Precise Mass The Age of Depopulation America’s Strategy of Renewal The New Battle for the Middle East The Fight for a New Israel On and on. I’ve been talking about this for a while – that we are entering a new cycle of war. But hearing now that North Korea is sending troops to Russia – I mean, wow – talk about a fall from grace. You think of the great Russian empire, Peter the Great – even Stalin, World War II … This is really one of the aftereffects of the total destruction they felt from Hitler, when he cut through Russia and destroyed so much of their population, the flower of their youth. Between that and alcoholism, things that are so unique to that country, have had such an effect that even today Russia struggles with the manpower to have their own troops, which had never been something Russia had a problem with before. So we’re still living with the aftereffects of WWII. And when you look at what’s happening in the Middle East, you can see we’re still living with the aftereffects of World War I as well. Remember, the Middle East used to be owned, basically by the Ottoman Empire. And after Turkey lost World War I, France and England carved up the Middle East, naming Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Palestine – all this is the aftereffects of the decline of the Ottoman Empire – really of Turkey losing World War I. It’s unbelievable. And we’ve talked about this a lot here at Behind the Markets. Because I think about it a lot, that the world has entered a new cycle of war. And I know that we’ve done so well picking companies I call “the new defense establishment: defense companies 2.0.” [Here is a report on my #1 defense stock]. But when you see President Xi Jinping telling his troops and his country to “prepare for war” (he says that a lot) … When you see Russia bringing in North Korea … And now South Korea is thinking about adding troops to counter the North Korean troops … You say to yourself, “good lord – this could really spin out of control.” We are at a very dangerous point in American history where we’re fighting ourselves internally, and of course we have all these multi-dimensional threats outside. And in my study – a lot of you know that I’ve spent my life studying ancient history – many have asked, why did Rome collapse? A lot of people used to think it was because of Christianity, or because they faced two threats at the same time – the Germans finally became civilized enough to attack them from the north, and then of course the Persians had a lot of aggressive and bold leaders and started attacking them from the east. But the truth is the Roman empire collapsed because the Roman citizens themselves stopped believing. And this is the thing that concerns me the most about some of the policies that some of the people in this country have. The Romans stopped believing enough to actually fight their own wars, so they hired proxy soldiers, mercenaries. And now it’s hard for the Army in America to meet its recruiting goals. A lot of people are teaching young kids that America is a bad country because slavery was a part of our history. That we should tear down some of the men and women who made our country great. They just dismantle. It’s like nihilism, really. So anyway, on this Tuesday with the election a week away, a very important election, with North Korea adding troops to help Russia, it’s just unbelievable what it means for Russia and the widening of this war. South Korea saying that they’re thinking about adding troops to help Ukraine, we are at a knife’s edge and this is a very important election as you well know – you don’t need to me to tell you that. This is probably the first binary election choice this stark that I’ve seen in my lifetime. "The Buck Stops Here,"
