Market Haircuts: Prepare for Yours

Dear Reader, How'd your long term portfolio look on August 5th, 2024 when the DOW dropped 1,033 points? What about in March of 2020? Or September 2008? I'll spoil the answer… IT LOOKED BAD. In 2008, the average stock market portfolio saw a 30% haircut. In 2020, stocks dropped 12% in a single day and didn't recover for six months.  Do you want the good news or the bad news first?  THE BAD NEWS = Market corrections are 100% certain. Whether it's this week, in a month, or in ten years, I am 100% certain they will happen. THE GOOD NEWS = BECAUSE we're 100% certain they will happen, we can plan for them and we can trade them. Your overall portfolio may be down, but wouldn't you feel better watching that if you're sitting on an option trade that's up 500 percent … 1,000 percent … or even more? Like I always say, anything we predict, we can trade. That's why good traders love repeatable trends.
