Graphite Shortage Worries EV Industry, Excites Investors

Investors Take Note... A Shortage of This Under-Appreciated Mineral [NOT Lithium] Could Derail the $7 Trillion Electric Vehicle Transition

Graphite Shortage Could Spell Disaster for $7 Trillion EV Revolution

While media attention has been focused on lithium, another essential battery metal faces an even more drastic shortage: graphite.

Graphite – not lithium – is the largest component of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. And projections warn of an 8 million ton shortfall of graphite by 2040.

That's why 97 more graphite mines will be needed by 2035 just to keep up with battery demand for the $7 trillion EV market.

Unfortunately, U.S. dependence on China for graphite puts the supply chain at risk of political disruptions. It also threatens national security and energy independence.

However, investment firm The Oregon Group sees an upside, stating that China's dominance over the graphite market "...provides a strategic opportunity for western producers and investors."
